I am not familiar with your model Mac. Unless dual boot is critical the simplest option would be to let OS9 run as Classic inside Panther. This saves having to restart. Otherwise you can install Panther (which I am guessing had Classic with it -- it has it with my Tiger OS) and then select which one you want to use in Startup Disk preferences. Things were a lot simpler back then when it came to using different system versions.

The issue I remember with installing OSX was some machines didn't support it. I do not offhand have your machine's specifications at hand. I remember you had to use Xpostfacto to get OSX to install on a G3.
